Why did Emi Martinez 's second yellow not lead to a red card against Lille?
Emi Martinez's antics are a huge part of his game. On Thursday against Lille, these antics earned him a yellow card in normal time and then again during the shootout. So ordinarily he should have been sent off after the second yellow. However the rule book states the contrary.
IFAB law 10 (determining the outcome of a match) states that -
'Warnings and cautions (YCs) issued during the match (including during extra time) are not carried forward into kicks from the penalty mark (KFPM).
A player who receives a YC during both the match and the KFPM is not sent off.'
Hence the keeper stayed on and went on to save Lille's 5th penalty to win it for Villa.
