Jharkhand, India's 28th state, was formed in the year 2000, and came into existence by the Bihar reorganization Act on November 15 that year.
With more than 30 per cent of the state being forest land, Jharkhand is among the states which have the highest forest cover in India. According to the 2011 census, it has an approximate overall population of around 3.2 crore (32 million) people. Jharkhand's capital is Ranchi.
In the Parliament of India, Jharkhand is represented by 14 seats in the Lok Sabha. These 14 Lok Sabha seats or parliamentary constituencies are: Palamu, Chatra, Lohardaga, Hazaribagh, Kodarma, Ranchi, Khunti, Jamshedpur, Singhbhum, Giridih, Dhanbad, Dumka, Godda, and Rajmahal. Each of these 14 regions in the state is represented by one seat each in the Lok Sabha, and the elected representatives from these seats are known as Members of Parliament or MPs.
Jharkhand went to polls in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in the last four phases - on April 29, May 6, May 12, and May 19.
Out of 14 seats 12 seats were won by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in which Bhartiaya Janata Party won 11 seats and 1 seat was won by All Jharkhand Students Union or AJSU PARTY .
The remaining 2 seats of the state were won by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in which Indian National Congress (INC) could manage to get only a single seat and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) got the another one.
The 2024 General elections in Jharkhand will be held in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases. It will go for polls on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1 for its 14 Lok Sabha seats.
