India is all set to tour South Africa for three-Tests followed by a full-length white ball series with three T20Is and three ODIs.
After a long speculation on the future of the T20I side and who will be the next captain, according to a report by Indian Express, BCCI has went ahead with the choice of Rohit Sharma as he is all set to lead India in the T20I series against South Africa
Rohit has been offered T20 captaincy but he is in UK on a holiday and wants an extended break after four months of gruelling season till end of the World Cup. But as captain, he has the highest respect for the dressing room and if he agrees to lead India in T20 World Cup, he will lead," a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
After the T20 World Cup in 2022, Rohit had actually been reluctant to play the shortest format as he focused on 50-over cricket.
Rohit’s decision is understandable, considering he led the team to the final of the recently-concluded World Cup at home. He will be leading the Indian Test team.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the three-match T20I series against South Africa starting from December 10 followed by three ODIs and two Tests, in Centurion (from December 26) and Cape Town (from January 3). KL Rahul will captain the ODI squad.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli won’t be traveling for the white-ball series as they requested for rest from the board.
