If you notice your baby is choking;
Turn them on to their stomach (on your forearm or thigh)
Have their head pointing down.
Support their neck/head. Give 5 sharp back blows.
Turn them over and check if the blockage has moved (keeping their head down).
If it has not moved commence chest thrusts.
2 fingers on middle of chest just below nipple level.
Push down 1/3 of depth of chest. Give 5 chest thrusts.
Keep alternating between back blows and chest thrusts.
Gauge the strength of back blows and chest thrusts based on baby's size, newborns will need less force than a 9 month old for example.
If the back blows and chest thrusts don't dislodge the object then call emergency services and continue until they arrive!
IF YOUR BABY BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE, STOPS BREATHING OR TURNS BLUE - START CPR AND CALL EMERGENCY SERVICES! Continue CPR until they arrive!
