Soon after the cabinet reshuffle in Rajasthan, there is a visible disquiet in the Congress as many of its legislators have openly expressed dissatisfaction over the rejig.
The first Congress legislator to question the move was Shafia Zubair. "The cabinet's structure could have been better. Those with a bad reputation have been promoted. Overall, Cabinet is not sending a good message. Women MLAs didn't get 33% reservation," she said.
Zubair further claimed that the Congress party's "double-speak" on the women's reservation has been exposed.
"Priyanka Gandhi talks about 40 per cent representation for women in UP but in Rajasthan, only 10 per cent of the cabinet is women. Several capable people have been left out of the cabinet. I have communicated my dissatisfaction to the party leadership," she added.
Another senior legislator Johari Lal Meena too registered his protest, saying the "most corrupt member" of the legislative assembly has been made a minister, referring to Congress leader Tikaram Juli who has been given a cabinet berth. "Today is a black day for Alwar district. If needed, I will resign," Johari Lal Meena warned.
Another Congress legislator Dayaram Parmar wrote to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, asking what special qualifications one needs to have to become a minister. "It seems some special qualifications are needed to be a minister. Please tell me what are those qualifications so that I can acquire them in order to become a minister in the future," he wrote.
One more legislator, Sandeep Yadav, took to Facebook to express his dissatisfaction at being left out of the new cabinet.
BSP legislator Deepchand Khadia too expressed his unhappiness at Tikaram Juli being made a cabinet minister from Alwar district.
In a damage control move, Gehlot later appointed six legislators -- Jitendra Singh, Babulal Nagar, Rajkumar Sharma, Sanyam Lodha, Ramkesh Meena, and Danish Abrar -- as his advisors.
"We have tried to give representation to all communities. We will try to adjust maximum number of legislators in different boards and corporations or make them parliament secretaries.
He said the contribution of those who could not be inducted is no less than those who have been made ministers.
