**Victory for Diversity: Carrom, Powerlifting, and More Reinstated for Shiv Chhatrapati Award After Advocacy Efforts**
In a triumphant turn of events, sports like carrom, powerlifting, billiards and snooker, golf, bodybuilding, yachting, and equestrian have been reinstated as eligible for the prestigious Shiv Chhatrapati Award. The initial exclusion of these sports had sparked concerns among state associations, leading to a three-week advocacy process.
Following persistent efforts and a constructive meeting at Mantralaya, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Industries Minister Uday Samant, and Sports Minister Sanjay Bansode decided to reverse the earlier decision. The associations were not only granted an extension of five days to submit nominations but also expressed gratitude to Minister Uday Samant for his proactive role in convincing Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Officials from various sports associations highlighted the importance of this decision, emphasizing the relief and motivation it provides to players. The active involvement of Minister Samant in promoting carrom tournaments and the positive response from Deputy CM Ajit Pawar were acknowledged as crucial factors in supporting these sports.
Devendra Joshi, Secretary of The Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharashtra, a Shiv Chhatrapati Award recipient, commended the positive response during the meeting, emphasizing the long-standing participation of sportspeople in these activities.
Sanjay Sardesai, Secretary of the Maharashtra State Powerlifting Association and a Shiv Chhatrapati Award recipient, credited Minister Samant for convincing Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, highlighting the impact on 52 powerlifters who have received the award.
This decision not only reinstates the deserving sports but also underscores the importance of recognizing diversity in sports achievements, ensuring that athletes across various disciplines have equal opportunities for recognition. #ShivChhatrapatiAward #InclusiveSportsRecognition
