Do you ever think we expect too much of newborns?
People are always asking 'oh are they a good baby then' Or 'are they sleeping through the night yet'? From the minute they exit the womb we expect them to sleep well, self soothe, to breastfeed effortlessly, to be able to make us understand what their needs are. Why are we expecting these brand new tiny humans to be able to do all these things? Babies are completely dependent on us and guess what... That's ok. It's normal. Newborns aren't supposed to know what they want. They are babies. They don't even know they have hands.. Your baby doesn't 'have' to be doing what other babies are doing. All parents and their parenting styles are different. All babies are different.
So the next time you wonder why your baby won't settle in to a sleep pattern a 3 weeks, why they cry when you're trying everything to appease them or they only settle with cuddles remember that all they have known is being inside and completely dependent on another human.
