United Kingdom Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned after serving the office for less than two months.
Truss has been under mounting pressure to quit, after she launched an economic policy that triggered a bond market rout.
Yesterday, her home minister Suella Braverman quit the office, less than a week after Truss fired her finance minister.
Braverman cited "serious concerns" about the government. Truss made the announcement after the resignation of her home minister, Braverman resigned via a letter that slammed the prime minister.
Given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party," Truss said. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party."
Truss said that a leadership election will take place "within the next week" and that she will stay on as prime minister "until a successor has been chosen."
