Down the Memory Lane continues.....
As I was not giving way on the two issues, a meeting was called at the residence of CM in Hyderabad.
When I explained the reason to the CM, he agreed with me that no elephant procession would be taken out but did not approve the second proposal.
While everything went off well, one lorry broke down on the bridge and entire road traffic came to a halt. The State Home Minister was also caught in the resultant jam. He had to walk the entire route on foot in the heat. He smiled and told me that they should have listened to me.
During my tenure, Loksabha elections took place. The Union Industries Minister was a candidate from the ruling party and was facing a tough contest.
Khammam was known was political violence and the then DGP of the State warned to be very careful and ensure that there was minimum loss of life. I assured him that I would do my best to ensure a peaceful election. I reviewed the situation and prepared an elaborate arrangement.
While examining the history of certain known criminals who played an active part in politics in the past, it was found that some of them had pending NBWs against them. I formed teams to ensure that all pending NBW’s were executed and they were produced on the court. This created ripples among several political parties including ruling party at Centre. So much so, the Union Minister chose to call me and questioned as to why his supporters were being arrested.
He was not amenable to reason. I had to curtly tell him that I would do my lawful duty and he was free to get them released from the court.
To be continued.....
