UEFA Champions League Draw Will Be Done By Computers Next Season!
As we know, the UEFA Champions League will be expanding from 32 teams to 36 teams next season. With the additional teams coming in and the initial rounds changing to a 'league setting' rather than being divided into groups, UEFA are bringing in computers to help manage them.
According to a report by Kaveh Solhekol, next season's Champions League draw will be conducted using computers. Instead of having UEFA guests pick teams from pots, a new system will be used due to the time and complexity of the draw. The manual draw could take three to four hours and involve 900 balls because of the new format.
In the new system, clubs will still be drawn manually, but then a computer will choose their eight opponents. This hybrid approach aims to streamline the process. An English IT company is operating the new software, with two backup systems in place to ensure reliability. Additionally, the draw will undergo an audit once it's completed.
