Couldn’t have said it better myself
If systems of oppression are being dismantled, it would mean that people from identities that have been oppressed, are experiencing the dismantling, or are no longer being discriminated the way they or their ancestors were.
That’s a pretty straightforward way to look at it, but ignorance and privilege continue to uphold the violence of casteist, racist, misogynisitc systems of oppression.
Those with caste-privilege don’t have the right to claim that the oppression they perpetuated no longer exists. Because how can someone with the relevant privilege claim that oppression has been dissolved when they haven’t been the ones to experience it in the first place?
Often people with caste-privilege, will say that casteism only exists in rural areas. Not only is this elitist, classist, outright ignorant, but it is also a brushing away of responsibility, while caste-based gender violence continues.
By claiming that the casteism that benefits them, no longer exists, caste-privileged people are just perpetuating casteism further, and caste-based atrocities continue.
The bare minimum we can do, is make the effort to educate ourselves and others who benefit from these systems of oppression, without exhausting those we have already harmed in our ignorance.
