US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West will travel to Doha next week for talks with representatives of the Islamic Emirate. According to Price, State Department spokesman Ned Price said West was scheduled to hold talks with representatives of the Islamic Emirate for two days on various issues. Afghanistan and humanitarian aid will be the focus of the debate.
"They will discuss our national interests in Afghanistan," Price said. "Counter-terrorism, safe evacuation for American and Afghan citizens to whom we have a special commitment, humanitarian aid, and the economic situation in Afghanistan are among these talks."West also attended the first US-UAE delegation meeting in October after the complete withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. West began his first visit as US Special Representative for Afghanistan to Europe and Asia in early November.
He first traveled to Brussels, where he met with EU officials and US allies to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, including a roadmap for recognizing the Islamic Emirate. He added that the talks would take place in Qatar. West also attended the Troika meeting on Afghanistan in Islamabad. He then traveled to Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart, Zamir Kabulov, to discuss Afghanistan.
After traveling to Moscow, West traveled to New Delhi to meet with senior Indian officials to discuss Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the State Department says a delegation from the Islamic Emirate, led by Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi, will meet with the European Union and the United States representatives in Doha next week. Humanitarian, education, health, reopening, and security of embassies in Kabul will be discussed.
The delegation includes representatives from the education, health, finance, security, and central bank sectors of Afghanistan.
