'Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon,' the legendary Radio presenter Ameen Sayani, popularly known for his iconic show 'Binaca Geet Mala wont be speaking anymore, as he passed away on Tuesday due to a heart attack at the age of 91.
Rajil Sayani, Ameen Sayani's son, confirmed the sad news of his father's demise to Indianexpress.com.
He recounted that his father experienced a heart attack on Tuesday night, following which he was rushed to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Ameen Sayani could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Rajil expressed the family's grief, stating, 'The doctors at the hospital attended to him but couldn't save him and he was declared dead.'
The funeral ceremony for Sayani will be held on Thursday, as the family is awaiting the arrival of some relatives who are expected to reach Mumbai on Wednesday.
Ameen Sayani was born into a family where literature held great importance. His mother was involved in running a newsletter called Rehbar, while his brother, the distinguished English broadcaster Hamid Sayani, contributed to the family's legacy. Ameen Sayani commenced his career with Radio Ceylon in 1952.
He became a household name for generations which enchanted the audiences. His captivating style of presentation quickly gained popularity, particularly when All India Radio ceased broadcasting Bollywood numbers. His program became a platform for the promotion of simple Hindustani, resonating deeply with people nationwide. He garnered immense popularity through his iconic radio program 'Geetmala,' which played a pivotal role in popularizing radio listening throughout India.
Sayani's illustrious career spanned over six decades, during which he produced and presented an impressive array of over 54,000 radio programs. Additionally, he lent his voice to more than 19,000 advertisements and jingles, showcasing his versatility and enduring influence in the field of broadcasting.
Beyond radio, he also ventured into acting, gracing various films with his presence in minor roles.
