There have been court orders to ‘satisfy this collective conscience’
The justification given for cancelling Munawar Faruqui’s Bangalore show was that he is ‘a controversial figure’
How can anyone possibly disprove that? And on the basis of such a vague allegation, he has been robbed of his livelihood. For a joke that he never actually made. Even international outlets were shocked by the state of FoE in India, where a comedian is jailed for a joke he didn’t make
Meanwhile, Bangalore police claim they can not allow a show to be held, and cite law and order as the justification…if they can’t control the public at a tiny comedy event, how can they control the entire city?
Shameful. India should be ashamed of the state to which it has been reduced. As Vir Das said, there are two Indias- one is his India, and one is the India in which Muslim comedians cannot work peacefully
