Koh-i-Noor which means mountain of light is a colourless diamond that was discovered in the mines of Guntur in Andra Pradesh in 13th C. It is first owned by Kakatiya Dynasty. It was the biggest diamond known to mankind. Currently, this diamond is embedded in the Queen Mothers Crown. The governments of India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan have all claimed ownership of this diamond but the UK government has denied it stating that it was obtained legally.
Koh-I-Noor diamond is also known as cursed diamond. One ancient Hindu text describes this diamond as one who owns the diamond will own the world but will also know all its misfortune only God or woman can wear it with impunity.
Is this curse is a myth or truth? What we have seen so far is quite evident that whoever has owned the diamond or either defeated or died. The Kakatiya Dynasty who originally owned this diamond was defeated by Alauddin Khilji. Alauddin Khilji died shortly after the possession. Then the diamond was passed to the Mughals they lost the war with Nadir Shah. Nadir Shah died shortly after the possession of diamonds that put an end to his dynasty. Ahmad Shah Durrani died on the verge of collapse when he had the diamond. Ranjith Singh had Kohinoor with him when he lost the war with the British. The British Empire gradually started losing hold of its colonies including India. In Britain, only the queen is allowed to wear a Kohinoor diamond.
