The movie series The Lord of the Rings', directed by Peter Jackson, is based on R.R. Tolkien's mammoth Middle Earth trilogy. The star of the story, and the films, is not a person, but an object, a ring. The ring allows one to control a host of other rings handed down to different peoples. The ring that rules all the others was forged using the fires of Mount Doom by the evil Wizard Sauron. This ring gives its holder so much power that it corrupts all those who seek to wear it, even the purest. However, there exist a diminutive people, the Hobbits, who are capable of carrying the ring without being corrupted. It falls upon one Hobbit, Frodo, to take the ring to Mt. Doom, which is the only place where it can be destroyed. The films, with their air of mystery and mythical monsters, have proved immensely popular, and remain so, to this day.
