The Intersex flag with its golden yellow background and purple circle emblem was first shared online in 2013, designed by Morgan Carpenter from Intersex Human Rights Australia.
“The circle is unbroken and unornamented, symbolising wholeness and completeness, and our potentialities,” Carpenter writes about the flag. “We are still fighting for bodily autonomy and genital integrity, and this symbolises the right to be who and how we want to be.”
This year, the Intersex Equality Rights UK has introduced an intersex inclusive Progress Pride flag with Carpenter’s design, reshaped into a triangle coming in from the left side of the Pride flag.
This reiteration has been designed by columnist Valentino Vecchietti.

Here’s some of what IERUK shared about the history of this new flag:
In 2017 under the leadership of American civil rights activist Amber Hikes, Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs developed the rainbow flag to incorporate black and brown stripes to include black, brown, and people of colour.
Building on that in 2018 Daniel Quasar redesigned the flag to include trans people, creating the Pride Progress flag.
In 2021, Valentino Vecchietti of Intersex Equality Rights UK developed the Pride Progress flag design to incorporate the intersex flag.
