The ANZAC biscuit is one of Australia's most historic desserts. These cookies, made of sustaining oats and coconut, were created as a long-life bread substitute for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) as they fought in World Wars.
ANZAC biscuits were originally tough, solid bricks of (admittedly tasty) sustenance. The modern version is softer and chewier, but the key ingredients remain the same: oats, flour, coconut, butter, sugar, and golden syrup.
