Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell for her alleged involvement in promoting the viewing of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on a subsidiary app of the Mahadev online gaming and betting application. Alongside actor Sanjay Dutt, Tamannaah is requested to appear before cyber personnel on April 29 as a witness.
The summon comes in light of allegations that Tamannaah and Sanjay endorsed FairPlay’s subsidiary app of the Mahadev betting app, which illegally streamed IPL matches. While Sanjay has cited scheduling conflicts and requested a later date, the cyber cell has already recorded statements from singer Badshah and managers of other implicated actors.
The case revolves around FairPlay's unauthorized streaming of IPL matches in 2023, causing significant losses to Viacom 18, the exclusive broadcaster. Viacom18 lodged a complaint with the Maharashtra cyber cell, asserting its Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to stream IPL matches. The Mahadev app, entangled in illegal transactions and betting allegations, implicates several celebrities, including Kapil Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, and Ranbir Kapoor, who have been under the scanner of enforcement agencies for their association with the app's promoters.
