Signs of turbulent times ahead
At least eight private jets landed in the UK from India in the past 24 hours as the super-rich paid tens of thousands of pounds to beat a new travel ban.
One, a Bombardier Global 6000, flew from Dubai to Mumbai on Thursday to collect passengers before flying on to Luton. It landed at 3.16am on Friday, just 44 minutes before the 4am deadline.
Another Bombardier Global 6000, registered to a private owner, landed at Luton from Mumbai at 2.15am, 1 hour and 45 minutes before the ban.
Two more from Delhi landed shortly after 1am.
In total four jets travelled from Mumbai, three from Delhi and one from Ahmedabad in the 24 hours before the ban was introduced.
Additionally, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Vistara landed at Heathrow just before 7pm yesterday, the last commercial carrier to make the journey before the deadline.
UK added India to its “red list” of banned countries from 4am Friday.
