Emile Smith Rowe has been the Arsenal player at the centre of news recently, with it first being reported that the club were extremely happy with his quality in training and he’s ‘knocking on the door’ of the starting eleven. However, in the last 24 hours, it has been reported by Fabrizio Romano that West Ham are exploring a potential loan deal for the Arsenal number ten; what should Arsenal do?
Pros of loaning him:
•Potentially higher chance of getting first team minutes
•Huge boost in confidence if he finds form
•Playing in a good side around good players that will allow him to excel
•Potentially protects/increases his value if the club are planning to sell him in the summer
•Several competitions to compete in besides the Premier League
•Good chance of winning European silverware
Cons of loaning him:
•No guarantee of minutes, West Ham are a very good side only sitting 6 points behind Arsenal in the league table, competition is just as difficult for a space
•No guarantee of form / an injury free stint, he has frequently had injury setbacks that tend to leave him sidelined for an extended period of time, and hasn’t played many minutes since returning from his previous problem
•As a result of the above points, there is also no guarantee that it protects his value, it could on the other hand even hinder it if he doesn’t perform or get the minutes he would need
Summary:
It largely depends on many factors, including where West Ham decide to primarily use him, as Paqueta and Kudus are untouchable when fit. Unless he is guaranteed a starting role in majority of games or West Ham accept a large option/obligation to buy, I struggle to see why he would want to leave this window after pushing so hard in Dubai to prove why he should be starting at Arsenal. Having said that, if his situation hasn’t changed by the end of the season, I expect him to leave and still bring a healthy amount of money to the club regardless.
