First Shubhman Gill, now Hardik Pandya from MI fined for slow over rate.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), has been fined INR 12 lakh for keeping a sluggish over rate during the exciting match on Thursday, April 18, in Mullanpur, against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and this was notably the former five-time winners' first infraction of the season in relation to minimum over-rate infractions as per the IPL Code of Conduct.
Seems like a lot indeed has changed since Pandya took over captaincy from Rohit Sharma. Mumbai paid a price for their slow over rate during the exciting match, having to keep five fielders within the circle for the final few overs. Mumbai's deficit was not fully exploited by Punjab, though, as the Sam Curran-led team was dismissed with five balls remaining in their chase of a 193-run mark at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Nonetheless, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma's 81-run partnership off 57 balls set the stage for the visitors. Following the Indian captain's departure for a 25-ball 36, Suryakumar and Tilak Varma put together a 49-run partnership in just 28 balls. After smashing seven fours and three sixes in 53 balls, the Mumbai batsman was eventually removed from the game. Mumbai amassed a strong 192/7 in their 20 overs because to Tilak's undefeated eighteen-ball performance of 34 and some powerful hits from Tim David and Hardik.
Will hard hit stunts like these turn heads for fans and pull them back towards Rohit Sharma as the hit-man captain? What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below..
