Sindhu joins Sushil Kumar’s club
India’s badminton sensation PV Sindhu outclassed China’s He Bing Jiao in straight games to clinch the bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.
Rio Olympics silver medallist Sindhu, who won her second Olympic medal in Tokyo, became the country’s only woman athlete to have two Olympic medals. And after wrestler Sushil Kumar, she is the second Indian sportsperson to win back-to-back Olympic medals in an individual event.
Sushil, who is currently in Tihar jail for his alleged involvement in a murder case, won his first Olympic medal in 2008 Beijing. He won bronze and in the next edition of the quadrennial games in London, he improved his previous medal colour to silver.
Now both Sushil and Sindhu have won Olympic silver and bronze medals.
Boxer Mary Kom, who had won bronze in the London Olympics, missed her second medal in Tokyo after losing the pre-quarterfinals bout.
