Similar to the first season, the 2nd season doesn't offer anything especially new when it comes to the beaten, smashed and ground-up dead horse that is Zombies in film, but there is just something about this series that will keep you hooked. Maybe its the fun camera angles or the extended tracking shots during a tense zombie chase scene, or that the show doesn't rely too heavily on dialogue like TWD or its spin-off series Z Nation for your to care about the characters. It just feels like that this is how a zombie apocalypse would actually play out. It is entertaining to read some of the other reviews which criticize the show for the characters poor-decision
making skills as if they have been though a zombie apocalypse and know how to handle such a situation. Regardless, if giving a show a poor rating based on a person's ability to make smart choices in fight-or-flight scenarios was a legitimate claim, then the human race as whole would get 1 out of 5 stars; the point being is that it is an unfair measuring system for those who reviewed the show poorly and if we used that as the standard, then it stands to reason that every slasher movie ever made would receive a low rating because of the countless teenagers who have run headfirst into deaths open arms over the past 40 or so years..
That is not to say that Black Summer is perfect because it isn't, but it is definitely filled with doom and gloom as season 2 feels even bleaker than the first season. Survivors are now in full primal instinct mode, killing each other without a moments hesitation and showing no remorse whatsoever once the deed is done. This is exemplified in the first 5 minutes of the season premier in a jaw dropper of a death from one of last seasons survivors. This season takes place during the cold dreary winter which brings with it new challenges for the survivors to deal with in addition to newly formed militias and survivor groups that have banded together. There are definitely lulls in action which was something that the 1st season suffered from, but its not enough to be too upset with. The intense, fast, and angry action packed scenes more than make up for these filler moments. This is the best Zombie show out there right now and is a must watch for any fans of the genre, even if you are dealing with zombie fatigue, Black Summer won't disappoint.
