Yet another thing most of us weren't taught at school is the importance of maintaining intimate hygiene. Without proper vulvar care, you run the risk of infections. Here are some signs to look for;
1 Odor - A normal, healthy vagina has a musky odor naturally. But if you find a fishy or strong foul smell down there, it could be a sign of an infection.
2 Discharge - Usually, white or clear discharge is a part of your vagina's natural cleansing process. But if your discharge appears orangish, greenish, greyish or thick white like cottage cheese, it indicates a health concern.
3 Itching - If you're itchy down there, especially with a burning sensation, it is a sign of infection. A healthy vagina is not supposed to be itchy and irritated.
4 Dryness - A dry vagina is usually a natural part of menopause. Lowered levels of estrogen can cause vaginal atrophy.
But taking care of your intimate health is fairly simple:
• Wash your vulva with warm water
• Use a mild intimate cleanser to keep the area clean and free from infections
• Your vagina is self-cleaning. So don't use any product (or even water) inside!
