Famous pop phenomenon Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson has made headlines with an audacious declaration that she plans to withdraw from the spotlight in the face of constant criticism directed at her beauty and persona on the internet.
Known for her famous lyric songs like About Damn Time, Good As Hell and Truth Hurts and many more, with her undeniable catchy songs, affirming lyrics, her support for the LGBTQ+ community, and her positive body inclusivity and self love, the well-known musician revealed her dissatisfaction in an open Instagram post, saying, "I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it," according to a BBC story.
Bodyshaming as we all know today is incredibly harmful as it perpetuates negative stereotypes and ideals about body image leading to low self esteem, eating disorders and even depression in extreme cases. The Grammy Winning singer in her extreme frustration and deeply hurtled mindset, lamented that she feels like "the butt of a joke" due to her appearance and concluded "I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet".

The audience seems to love a little banter on criticising others about appearances these days and it isn't fair. Several big names in the Hollywood industry have spoken out against bodyshaming, from Ariana Grande to Natalie Portman when fans were speculating her pregnancy and the actress lashed out, "it's still okay to speculate and comment on a women's body shape whenever they want?" and Celine Dion who said "Anything wrong with me body? You can't please everybody!" and the list goes on. Overall, body shaming not only affects the individual on a personal level but also perpetuates a toxic culture that undermines self worth which can be dangerous sometimes. Its hurtful and shameful and it's high time people put a stop to this.
