In a major setback for the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha Polls 2024, nearly 400 party workers in Rajasthan have tendered their resignation from its primary membership on Friday, news agency IANS reported citing sources.
The recent wave of resignations by several prominent Congress leaders has left the party in deep trouble with just a few days left in the Lok Sabha election 2024.
The situation worsened when the Congress formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) for the Nagaur Lok Sabha seat. The Congress' choice to field RLP Chief Hanuman Beniwal as the candidate in Nagau fueled internal party disputes.
The party also suspended its three workers for six years on Monday for allegedly campaigning for BJP candidate Jyoti Mirdha in Nagaur, based on a complaint filed by Beniwal. Following the suspension of these Congress officials, which included former MLA Bhararam, Kuchera Municipality Chairperson Tejpal Mirdha, and Sukharam Dodwadiya, there was outrage among Congress workers in Nagaur.
Meanwhile, Tejpal Mirdha held a press conference on Friday and said, "Congress was in a strong position in Nagaur during Assembly polls. It won four out of eight seats. Even in Lok Sabha polls, its position was equally strong. Despite this, why was the alliance formed with the RLP."
"Hanuman Beniwal is a tool who is trying to destroy the Congress in Nagaur. Congress workers have been deeply shocked with the formation of alliance with such a person. That's why we all are giving our collective resignation letter," he added.
