According to him, what makes the machine so valuable is its ability to tell if a child can listen to a range of sounds. “Often when we tell parents that they need to do this test, they will tell us that their child can hear properly, because the baby has responded to loud sounds. What they don’t realise is that reacting to loud sounds is very different from a normal conversation. A child must be able to hear even tiny whispers,” said Dr Grover. The entire Echo-Screen testing procedure is over in less than 10 minutes. “All you need is a quiet baby and a quiet room. So to get the best results we run the test, when the baby is asleep,” said Dr Grover. “This is one screening test that must be done for all babies irrespective of whether a baby is healthy or not.”
