After the Indian Squad for T20 World Cup was decided there has been much in talk about, why Rinku wasn't taken into India's main squad.
Now, Indian captain Rohit Sharma appeared to explain to Rinku Singh the reason behind his omission from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad on the eve of the marquee Indian Premier League (2024) clash between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhde Stadium in Mumbai.
Rinku's omission from the squad for the mega event has caused outrage across the nation, with the left-handed batter having a near flawless record for India. Acing the extremely hard job of being a finisher, Rinku has not put a foot wrong for the national team, having played 15 T20Is in which he has batted 11 times, securing a record 356 runs at an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.2 with two half-centuries to his name.
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit addressed a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday (April 2). Agarkar explained Rinku was unfortunate to miss out on no mistake on his own and stated his omission was the hardest decision they had to take.
"It's probably the toughest thing we have had to discuss. He has done nothing wrong, not even Shubman Gill for that better. It's about combinations. There are a couple of wrist spinners included to give Rohit more options. It's just unfortunate. He's in the reserves, so that tells you how close he came into being in the 15. But at the end of the day you can only pick 15 players in the squad," said Agarkar.
It is worth noting that in the last T20I that India played, Rinku and Rohit put up a massive partnership of 190 runs after India were reduced to 22-4 against Afghanistan in Bengaluru . Rinku made an unbeaten 39-ball 69 while Rohit hit his 5th T20I ton as the Men in Blue won the clash after two super overs..
