Can't wait to see Laryea in action for TFC again!
A great addition to the squad.
TFC fans must be buzzing with this news.
The MLS side paid a fee of $750,000 to the Premier League club to obtain the right-sided defender as they look to prepare for the 2024 MLS campaign. The 48-time capped Canada international arrives in Toronto after a rough 2023 season that saw TFC finish bottom of the league.
2024 is a new season and TFC now have ex-Canada boss John Herdman in charge. It remains to be seen if he can turn things around, but the addition of Laryea in his defense will certainly help.
The 29-year-old played for TFC from 2019 to 2021 before joining the English outfit, but after making just five appearances in a 6-month stint from January 2022 to August 2022, he was loaned back to the Canadian side from August through Summer 2023. He then briefly switched allegiances looking for game time as Forest told him he wasn't in their plans for the campaign, joining the Vancouver Whitecaps on loan through the remainder of the 2023 MLS season.
Despite being named on the Forest squad for the rest of 2024, he's opted to officially re-join MLS on a permanent transfer.
“I am excited to officially welcome Richie back to Toronto FC. Our fans and everyone in the organization will be happy to see him back where he belongs,” said Toronto FC Head Coach John Herdman. “Knowing his skills, character, talent, and dedication from our time together on the national stage, I am confident his presence will be pivotal in our quest for success this season. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with him again.”
