Rain in the Desert
The morning started off all gray and gloomy over Dubai's huge skyscrapers. The sky was completely covered in thick, dark clouds - no bright sunshine peeking through at all. The humid air felt really still and heavy, like the whole city was holding its breath.
Then the rain finally started dropping - big, spread out water drops splattering onto the baking hot pavement below. Within just minutes, the downpour really opened up. Massive sheets of warm rain came pouring down, flooding the underpasses and stranding cars stuck in the streets.
For this glitzy city that's so used to scorching dry heat, the storm was a total shock. Office workers rushed outside, staring up at the heavy rain in amazement. Kids ran around splashing and dancing through all the new puddles, laughing and screaming with joy over the roaring downpour.
The parched desert ground transformed rapidly, with dry riverbeds turning into rushing rivers. Even the sand dunes looked darker, like they were finally drinking in the precious moisture. The palm trees whipped wildly in the strong winds, celebrating the surge of life-giving wetness.
As suddenly as it started, the rain finally let up after a couple of soaking hours. The city drained quickly, but everywhere looked lush and vibrant from the downpour. Puddles winked in the returning sunlight - a fleeting glimpse of nature's untamed power in this human-made desert oasis
