Wonderfully narrated
People ask me how I became an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. Here is my answer...
When you are a son of schoolteacher, what do you think after completing education - obviously search for a "stable and secure" job, the great Indian middle class dream? I too wasn't different from typical kid from a such a family with middle class values. Those days you became doctor/engineer, bank employee or teacher. One accepted the job that came oneโs way โ you did not have much choice. And that's what I did after completing my master's and MPhil (School of International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University) - I joined as a teacher at a University in NCR.
But as I faced some difficulties on the job front which were not of my making, I started looking for another assignment and a more "secure and stable" job. As career in civil service was one option, I decided to pursue the goal.
To clear civil service examination one required a lot of hard work and there was no substitute for it. One laboured without any coaching. When I look back at those days, I think the hard work paid off and I got good enough rank to be selected for Indian Police Service. After joining, what I truly yearned was to serve the people. From the day one, I decided that no matter what position is given to me, I will do my best to give back to the society and today I am a satisfied man at the end of my public career.
Hope to see you soon with another nugget from days gone by..
