House sparrows are almost extinct now
I love your proposal! It is a must for every government to invest in such projects to help us breathe fresh air again.
Best of luck
More power to you
Hello readers, I’m from the city of Gwalior, a city of 20 Lakhs population, surrounded by mountains and many many villages.
Let me take you a few years back, around 2001-2002, when we all were a lot younger, there used to be a bird, very commonly found, a house sparrow, in my hometown Gwalior and your town as well, that’s how common it was.
It was not unusual to find their nests in our balconies, on the small stem of a tree near our house, in our school classrooms and so many other places that had few inches of secluded space. Now refresh your memory and try to remember when was the last time you came across that bird’s nest, or even that bird flying in the sky or sitting somewhere, making beautiful chirping noises, I bet you can’t. Because their population has dwindled to such an extent that if you do see him somewhere, thank your gods.
The pollution levels in my city have skyrocketed, with Gwalior named the most polluted city in the world several times, in terms of air quality, this is because my city is not left with many trees, it’s like a body without lungs.
Now coming to my solution:
Create green lungs in the city: Divide the city into many blocks with square-shaped mini forests at the center , while these green zones will be protected. This will make the city’s air a lot cleaner and also give the residents place to hang out and enjoy.
Appoint guardians for these blocks: Next the government shall appoint a guardian, who will oversee the developments of that block, from a climate vantage point.
Financial sustainability
One of the biggest underutilized assets of our state governments is unutilized government office spaces and other government lands. Furthermore, land can be acquired for the purpose mentioned above, if the situation is still unresolved, then for the greater good, the government must displace them and give them an alternate place to live.
Technical feasibility and know-how
This project will need basic architecture and civil engineering know-how, and a little bit of political will to do the needful.
