Good work 👍
Nobody looks forward to their baby's vaccinations. Even though the shots are crucial to their long-term health, seeing your infant upset or in pain is difficult for any parent. But did you know that parents can play a crucial role in relieving the discomfort of vaccines in babies, making the process more comfortable for both of you?
There are certain Do's and Don'ts we need to follow after the baby is vaccinated. It is extremely important for us to be aware of these small yet crucial points to avoid any more pain or discomfort to the baby.
Post laccination effect;
- Pain near the injected site
- Swelling of the local area fever
- Irritability, increased fussiness
- Decreased appetite
How to take care of your baby?
- Cold fomentation with cool cloth or ice wrapped inside a cloth
- Paracetamol can be given for pain and fever.
- Avoid giving oil massage
- Decrease in appetite or intake of solids, ensure to keep baby hydrated with regular feeding.
What not to do post vaccination;
- Do not apply anything that is hot near the injected site as it can cause extremely discomfort, pain and burns.
- Do not apply ice directly and don't press it for long as it can lead to ice bite.
- Beware of the correct dosage of paracetamol as excess can lead to paracetamol poisoning.
- Do not keep the baby covered completely with anything tight as the baby can feel uncomfortable so make them wear loose and comfortable clothes.
- Do not forcefully feed them but try and give them adequate hydration by frequent feeds or fluids.
- Be near them as much as possible as your touch and presence will be extremely comforting for them!
