Who doesn’t love a redemption arc in any character’s journey? From being a surplus to Manchester United to be the creator in Marco Silva’s Fulham, Andreas Pereira’s ability has been showcased completely this season.
Fulham have had an amazing season given they just came back to the Premier League. Signing the likes of Palhinha was a no-brainer given the Portuguese’s well-documented quality in the Liga NOS but the signing of Pereira came as a surprise. Yes, he did have a good season back in Brazil but given his constant loan spells across Europe and then to be cherry-picked and thrust into the starting line-up was a masterstroke in Fulham’s season.
With Mitrovic being the outlet and the likes of Palhinha and Reed being industrious in midfield, Pereira had the license to play as a proper #10 utilizing those half spaces. Creating 2 chances per 90 before his injury with Fulham recording an xG of 1.3 per 90, Pereira’s chance creation has been adequate given Fulham’s style of play.
Pereira is one of the prime examples of proper player profiling and when trust is given by the coaching staff, then the players perform to the best of their capabilities. As his dad said, "Andreas, play where you are valued and trusted" and that cannot be any less true.
