As a child, I never imagined boxing would be part of my life. Growing up as the sixth of eight children to a farming family on the outskirts of Imphal, martial arts seemed distant. Yet, curiosity led me to the ring. My first encounter with boxing at the Sports Authority of India centre in Imphal was comical. It could have deterred anyone from the sport's violent reputation. The journey to my dream was challenging. I endured long walks and bus rides just to make it to practice. Despite the battles, even after becoming a national champion, I persisted.
In the context of Manipur, I feel the biggest issue in promoting new faces and new talents from SAI center, there is only Sub junior and junior level but those athletes who have played from senior level cannot be from SAI since that facility has been now removed from Manipur. In our area, I think more development us required in the grassroots level which in my opinion is lacking quite a lot. Presently we are trying our best for the betterment of those children who are just starting their journey in sports, because I believe if there is no good facilities in the grassroots level, it becomes automatically difficult to reach higher levels once the basics is problematic.
