Mohun Bagan 2-3 Chennaiyin: A Much-Needed Miracle at the Salt Lake Stadium!
Chennaiyin FC scripted a fairytale comeback to beat Mohun Bagan on their home perch once again. The result means that the battle for the top spot and the playoff spot are both going to get even more interesting.
Going into the game, Mohun Bagan were the firm favourites, given their strong lineup and their nine-match unbeaten streak. The home side took the lead to add more pressure on Chennaiyin, ending the first half 1-0 in their favour.
However, Owen Coyle's words at halftime seem to have had a positive effect on the CFC players as the Marina Machans seemed a side reborn. After Jordan Murray levelled the scores in the 72nd minute, captain Ryan Edwards scored a header to give Chennaiyin the lead in the 80th minute.
The referee though would play spoilsport with dodgy decisions including a late penalty being awarded to Mohun Bagan that was scored by Dimitri Petratos to make it 2-2. Chennaiyin however didn't bow down as Irfan Yadwad made it 3-2 to the away side after a late counterattack to get all three points!
With their next two games against NorthEast United and Jamshedpur FC at the Marina Arena, Can CFC turn the tide? Let me know your thoughts...
