Mental health problems are pains that in many cases remain hidden. Many sufferers, whether they like it or not, keep it to themselves. Holding such occasions is more to inform and encourage patients to take the first step in the treatment process.
Many developing countries in recent years have tried to encourage patients to move on to treatment by launching such occasions or even encouraging celebrities to talk about their mental health problems.
But in countries like Afghanistan, it is still common to hide emotional distress for fear of being judged by others or to seek superstitious ways to treat it. Statistics show that women in Afghanistan suffer more from mental health problems than men.
According to the Afghan Ministry of Public Health, 46 percent of the country's 35 million people are mentally ill. About 72% of them are women and 60% of them are men.
