Poland registered a fantastic victory over Saudi Arabia in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Education City Stadium. The Robert Lewandowski lead side bagged their first win in a highly intense match to add three highly crucial points to their name. Saudi Arabia on the other hand succumbed to a bitter loss following their magnificent win over Argentina in their opening match. They're now sitting at the second position in their group below Poland who are currently the group toppers.
Poland started strongly as they looked immensely comfortable with the ball in their possession early on in the game. The side came pretty close to opening the scoring when Zielinski's corner found Bielik in the box. The midfielder headed the ball brilliantly towards goal only to see it being cleared off the line by Al Shehri. Poland finally took the lead in the 39th minute when Lewandowski managed to latch onto a short pass from Saudi Arabia at the back and squared it onto to Zielinski's path. The midfielder brilliantly found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The first half ended with Saudi Arabia being awarded a penalty. Salem Al Dawsari however had his penalty saved by Wojciech Szczesny as the score remained 1-0.
The second half saw both the sides giving it their all to bag more goals to strengthen their grip over the game. Salem Al Dawsari went for goal from long range only to see his effort being pushed wide by Wojciech Szczesny who made a brilliant save. Poland too came close to a second goal when Arek Milik rattled the woodwork with his free header. Robert Lewandowski finally helped the Poles double their advantage as he made the Saudi Arabian defense pay for their sloppy work at the back. The no.9 caught Al Malki napping and stole the ball away from him before slotting it past Al Owais for his first World Cup goal. The striker had another chance in stoppage time to score one on one with the keeper but Al Owais made the save to deny him. FT:- Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia.
