Netherlands played a highly intense draw in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 against Ecuador at the Khalifa International stadium. Louis Van Gaal's men were majorly kept under pressure by the South American side despite being on the scoresheet early. Ecuador on the other hand would be kicking themselves for not being able to bag all three points in this crucial match and move to the top of their group. The draw means that Netherlands are now at the top of their group followed by Ecuador, with both the team having registered a draw a win so far in their first two games.
Netherlands started strongly as it took the Dutch side just 6 minutes to open the scoring. Klaasen provided a ball to Cody Gakpo who in turn found the back of the net with a brilliant left footed shot from outside the box to make it 1-0. Ecuador came close to equalising in the 32nd minute when the Valencia found some space to shoot following some brilliant play by his teammates on the counter. The Ecuadorian however saw his shot being tipped over by Nappert at the near post. The South American team scored in the stoppage time of first half only to see their goal being chopped off due to offside.
Ecuador looked strong right from the early minutes into the second half as it took them barely four minutes to level the scores. Estupian's low drilled shot parried into the path of Valencia who smashed it in for his third World Cup goal in 2022. Ecuador nearly took the lead at the 60 minute mark when Valencia's effort was blocked by Van Dijk only for Plata to follow it up with another powerful shot that came off the crossbar. The last significant opportunity of the match too came in Ecuador's way as Nappert's late goal kick was charged down by Rodriguez and ended up remaining inches wide of the open dutch net. FT:- Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador.
