It's been a rough time for Anthony Martial ever since his scintillating 2019/20 season which saw him win the Players' Player of The Year award for Manchester United.
A player who was arguably in the form of his life then saw a massive downfall in both fortune and form in the 2020/21 season, as his Goal contributions (G+A) dropped off from 27 in 19/20 to a jaw-dropping 11 in 20/21 with much lesser game time, injuries, COVID and more importantly poor form.
There is a narrative around him that he tends to underperform when another senior striker per se, arrives at the club. And last season, surprisingly, that seemed to be the case after the arrival of Edison Cavani on a free transfer which saw him shift more often to the left flank and getting lesser gametime up top.
Cavani's staggering form towards the backend of last season meant that there was very little oppurtunity for Martial to make a case for himself into the starting lineup and it was around that time he himself had some apparent injury troubles.
With all of that being said, Ralf Rangnick revealed in his presser that Martial has expressed his intention to leave the club. Whether or not he gets his move in January 2022 remains to be seen with interests from clubs like Sevilla and Juventus being mentioned by several sources.
The current season has been yet another underwhelming one for Martial so far, with him getting extremely minimal game time and having only a goal to his name and injuries seem to be a recurring theme.
Add the arrival of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, the United frontline is overloaded with attacking talent with a little guarantee for gametime.
With the World Cup lurking at the backend of 2022, Martial will desperately try to get a move away and it is sad how its had to end for him in this way at United.
A player with his talent could never reach the potential he showed promise due to the instability of United's coaching set up which saw 3 different managers in the past 7 years.
