According to a recent report in the Manchester Evening News by Rich Fay, Manchester United have started their search to appoint the club's first-ever Head of Women's Football.
When the team was reformed in 2018, John Murtough worked closely with Casey Stoney in making all the decisions but ever since his appointment as Manchester United’s first Football Direcor, Steve Deaville has been doing his job (as reported by Adam Crafton on The Athletic in July 2021). Steve is a finance director who was appointed as the de facto general manager of the women’s team.
For an ambitious club like Manchester United, having separate directors and head for men’s and women’s team is important. We have been seeing Nick Cox and Charlotte Healy as the Head of Men’s Academy and the Head of Women’s Academy do well in their respective roles so it makes sense for the club to do the same with both the senior team setups.
The Head of Women’s Football will have the following roles to perform:
1. lead on & off the pitch operations to ensure the team fights for silverware
2. ensure the women’s team meet its objective
3. implement a common playing style across all age-groups
4. improve the training and playing facilities
There's a fear among the fans that this might be a smokescreen in wake of the recent poor performances from the women's team under new manager Marc Skinner.
If and when this happens, it'll be an important step towards fulfilling the UWCL dream and challenging for silverware.
