The Manchester United captain has asked for the rule change after Amad Diallo was handed a second yellow card for removing his shirt after scoring in the injury time of extra-time against Liverpool to hand the Red Devils a berth in the FA Cup semi-finals. Current rules state that if a player is to remove their shirt on the field before having been substituted off, the player shall receive a yellow card to their name.
Talking to the media after the game, the Portuguese star said [via The Athletic]: "This moment has to be enjoyed and I think it’s one of the rules football has to change,” he added. You should be able to celebrate the goal, obviously with respect to other clubs, to enjoy your moment."
The rule itself has been there for a long time and after the game Amad revealed during the frenzy in the 121st minute, he forgot that he had already been booked earlier by referee John Brooks. However, he also revealed that the goal and the feeling of the win made the sending-off feel less disappointing to him.
