The true idea of democracy lies on making a choice, and the greatest gift it has given to citizens it to choose representatives on our behalf.
With 2024 Lok Sabha Elections around the corner, the filing of Nominations has already begun today.
And to choose right leader, every Indian citizen must ensure their voice.
The first step towards exercising this fundamental right is to ensure your name is enlisted in the Election Commission's voter list.
Before proceeding with the enrollment process, verify if you meet the eligibility criteria for voter registration. You must be a citizen of India, aged 18 years or above as of January 1st of the year of revision of the electoral roll, and not be disqualified under any law.
The Election Commission has simplified the registration process by introducing online registration facilities. Visit the National Voters' Service Portal (NVSP) website or download the Voter Helpline app on your smartphone to begin the registration process.
Fill out the online Form 6, which is the application for inclusion of your name in the electoral roll. Provide accurate personal details such as name, date of birth, address, and upload supporting documents as required.
Ensure all documents uploaded during the registration process are valid and up-to-date. Commonly accepted documents include Aadhaar card, passport, driving license, or any other government-issued identification.
After submitting your application, a Booth Level Officer (BLO) will conduct a field verification to verify the information provided. Make sure you're available at the given address during the verification process.
Keep track of your application status through the NVSP website or Voter Helpline app. You can also contact the Election Commission's helpline for any assistance or queries regarding your application.
In case of any errors or changes in your voter information, you can use Form 8 for corrections or Form 8A for transposition of your name within the same constituency.
Be mindful of the deadline for enrollment in the electoral roll, which is typically set a few weeks before the election date. Missing the deadline could deprive you of your voting rights in the upcoming elections.
So hurry, register yourself and exercise your right to vote. 🗳
