Arsenal haven’t won at Anfield in the Premier League since September 2012, with goals from Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski sealing a very rare victory. The gunners came close at the end of last season to breaking this ‘Anfield curse’, but ultimately the game finished 2-2 after a thrilling 90 minutes.
Key battles:
A lot of the game will arguably be dictated on the performances of both teams fullbacks, but with Zinchenko not operating as an orthodox left back and leaving a lot of space on the counter, it is hard to say that Salah will not exploit it. Although Zinchenko has been making more challenges, even the best defenders have a tough time stopping Salah.
Saka is on fire this season, with the average highest rating across the league at 7.61 (Sofascore). Tsimikas deserves respect for the performances he has shown whilst covering for Robertson, but if Saka plays anything like how he has been recently, it is hard to see a scenario where Saka does not come out on top.
Other notable areas:
Liverpool are, in my opinion, the best counter attacking team this season, which poses a real threat to a largely possession based Arsenal side, who have struggled to finish their chances in recent weeks. The biggest fear for Arsenal will be getting too comfortable with possession and making a sloppy pass, because once Liverpool get players forward and players in behind, there is normally one outcome.
Declan Rice will be the most important player on the pitch for the Gunners tomorrow, if Ødegaard or Havertz lose the ball in the middle of the pitch he has to be the one cleaning up and breaking up the Liverpool counter attack at any cost.
With William Saliba fit and the addition of Rice, I think Arsenal will be more up for this fixture than they ever have been, but Anfield is arguably the toughest place to go and Liverpool will have all the confidence in their form, so it will definitely be one that goes down to the wire.
