Liverpool now have been at the end of two 2-2 draws in the league by two London clubs. With the league massively being hit with the hazardous virus, teams are finding it hard to cope. And when you discuss about depth, the focus swiftly turns to how the clubs are backed in the market.
Such is the case for Liverpool. A top club on the field, has been unfortunate off the field. Be it the contract extension of their talisman Mo Salah or be it addition of quality to compete and go neck to neck with champions elect City.
Jurgen Klopp has got a decision wrong, strangely, when he missed out on replacing a vital part of his squad in Gini Wijnaldum.
It reminds me of how Man Utd failed to replace Romelu Lukaku 2 years ago. It is the same situation about having replacement ready, but not someone who would fill their shoes. The hole Gini Wijnaldum has created is there to be witnessed when he had to depend on an ageing Milner and a boy from the academy while facing the top sides. The recent results as we know have taken a toll on the title ambitions of the Merseyside club.
Wijnaldum was a goal scoring workhorse and much underrated in the German's heavy metal style of play and he was seen absolutely everywhere on the pitch which they lack immensely. The solution is out there and hence they're behind a young midfield genius who is a Stevie Gerrard fanboy. Currently at Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham might not be an out and out Gini replacement, but Klopp surely would do anything to get him and the best out of him.
This might be a reason - a thought somewhere at the back of Klopp's mind and thus not the rush to right away lookout for a Gini replacement. But it is a decision that has duly caused a turn of tide for Liverpool, as we come into the mid season.
