The movie 'Kurup' takes us through the life life story of an absconding criminal in 1984 in Kerala, India. The most surprising fact about him is that he is wanted for murder and life insurance fraud and yet he hasn't been found till date by the police authorities. No one has found a trace of the criminal in the last 37 years. The movies follows the life story of Kurup and portrays him as a disturbed individual who goes through the different stages of life and ends up committing a crime to get a better life. While a segment of the movie is indeed made up since we do not actually know what happend to the person himself we can credit this to artisitic liberty. The story itself if well - researched and the commendable acting of the cast leaves a lasting impression on the audience. For a 37 year old story that still resounds with the people of that place, the movie has brought about new perspectives and a kind of conviction. All mainstream movies somewhere glorify and sympathise the criminal. The lack of such a technique in Kurup makes it more realistic. There's been an effort to understand the motives of the person and comprehend what went on in the mind of the criminal. The storyline, cast and screenplay set in the 70s makes the movie a great experience. One of the most resounding factor that I took away from the movie was the background score that fit in perfectly to all situations of the movie. To portray a villain's story just the way it should be was something that Kurup did beautifully and therefore I think it's worth the watch.
