Kunal Kemmu Reflects on "Selective Alpha Male" Portrayal in 'Animal' and Its Real-World Impact
Kunal Kemmu, in a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, delved into the contentious portrayal of the alpha male archetype in the movie 'Animal.' Released in December 2023, the film stirred discussions about the influence of such depictions on the audience.
Kemmu expressed concerns about adopting traits of a "selective alpha" in real life, cautioning that such behavior could lead to physical harm and legal consequences. He emphasized that labeling such conduct as right or wrong oversimplifies the complexity of human tendencies and traits.
The actor suggested that individuals attempting to embody such traits might face repercussions, including violence and legal action. Kemmu urged thoughtful consideration, stating, "Aap samajdar ho, aap kar lo try. Aapko aisa banda chahiye? Jab teen din aapko thappad padenge, chaute din aap bologe ki main police ko phone kar dungi. Usko bhi samajh aa jayega, aapko bhi samajh aa jayega" (You're wise, go ahead, give it a try. Do you want such a person? When you receive slaps for three days, on the fourth day, you'll say that you'll call the police. Both you and that person will understand).
Reflecting on watching 'Animal,' Kemmu acknowledged feeling a surge of energy but emphasized viewing it purely as entertainment. He admitted to the impulse to emulate on-screen aggression, attributing it to cinema's immersive nature eliciting strong emotional responses.
However, Kemmu cautioned against mistaking cinematic heroism for real-life behavior. He stressed that attempting to embody a selective alpha male persona could lead to severe consequences, such as imprisonment or retaliation from more dominant individuals.
*"Animal" featured Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Shakti Kapoor, and Prem Chopra in significant roles, and a sequel titled "Animal Park" is anticipated.*
