The Old Lady of Turin took on Jose Mourinho’s Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome last night and arguably played the game of the season already.
Roma started with a back 3 once again 4 whereas Juve kept their formation and played a 4-3-3. A big surprise was Moise Kean starting upfront.
Roma started off on the front foot in the first half, as they recorded 11 shots in the first half out of which 8 were from inside their own box. Tammy Abraham scored his 4th goal in as many games to open the scoring. He connected well from his header from a corner.
Roma kept on pushing for the second but it was Dybala who scored an unstoppable curling strike from outside the box with his left foot to make things level at 1-1.
Roma played more passes to break the lines and had an xG of 1.45 in the entire first half. They seemed to have taken complete control when Mikhitaryan’s deflected shot looped into the Juve net and when the Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini curled a wonderful freekick to give the hosts a 3-1 lead going into the break.
Roma must have been a little complacent in their subconscious as they took the foot off the pedal considering that Juve had only scored 28 goals in the 20 games they had played this season. But a frantic period of 7 minutes saw the Biancconeri score 3 goals to take the lead.
Locatelli was left unmarked in the box to head home after which Kulusevski pounced to level scores at 3-3, not after De Sciglio took advantage of a careless Chris Smalling header to send the stadium in shock.
All of Juve’s hard work could have been undone had it not been for Szczęsny, who saved Pellegrini’s penalty in the 83rd minute after De Ligt handled for his 2nd yellow and eventual red.
The result leaves Roma on the 6th of the Seria A table, 6 points behind Juve who occupy the 5th Spot.
