So amidst a very random Man United football discussion, my mate asked me a simple question. Would Jadon Sancho ever become the player we thought he could?
And that led to a series of long/randomly typed out texts which eventually led to this story.
In my honest opinion, I think he saw the move as a stepping stone to an eventual galactico (Real Madrid esque) move in his career during his prime.
But due to a lot of unforeseen circumstances, this move has been largely forgettable. Lets talk about the current project under Erik ten Hag.
To answer the initial question: With the players around him and the system he’s playing RIGHT NOW, I’m not quite sure. (Future lets see).
But what I will say is that, what the fanbase expects of him as a player currently, isn’t what he is as a player. He is someone who would pass and move and pick runners, and would be picked by people with his movement. He is a pass and go player. He ain’t this dribble and shoot guy. He needs overlaps, underlaps, movements in and around him.
He is someone who would hold the ball in tight spaces and lay it off for runners. And He’s only been able to do it very very little this season. (We saw him in his better element during preseason, Playing with Dalot behind him. Martial in form and Scott also cooperating decently).
I thought he found his element. Although I know at Dortmund he was better on the left than right but at United for me personally he has had his better set of games on the right. Even on left he had a couple of good 90s. Then there was this brief EtH mention about how he could play as a 10 given his playing style (The way he can carry the ball, hold it, pass intricately in half spaces).
At United, I’m just going to accept whatever EtH decides for him & I do hope he has a good career here. Only time will tell.
